You should have serious attitude to Accutane dosage as its correctness defines the efficiency of the whole therapy. As for the initial dose, it is usually 40 mg daily for a few weeks. Usually a course lasts from two up to four weeks. This is the dose you may start with. However if you are concerned about possible side effects and want to check your reaction on the drug, the initial dose can be as low as 10 mg. Remember that doses lower than 40 mg cause big risks for acne flare.
The maintenance Accutane dosage implies taking 1 mg per kg of the body weight daily after 2-4 weeks of initial course. One capsule contains 10 mg or 40 mg each. If your weight is 70 kilos you should take 70 mg of Accutane daily. If you weight is more or less, the Accutane dosage is corrected respectively. The cumulative dose is 120 mg per kilo in average. It is the minimal dose required for fighting acne even if it is easily responds the treatment. If acne still develops after gaining the cumulative dose of 120 mg per kg, the therapy is usually continued until the development of new lesions stops. Only a professional dermatologist can define its reasonability. In some cases the total cumulative dose is increased to 150 mg per kg.
